Candied Pecans - Sweet, Spicy, or Chocolate drizzled

These treats are expensive to buy and so easy to make! They’re the perfect little something to bring to parties or as a gift for friends and family. Ditch the wine and bring the nuts!

Candied pecans are pricey! Make them at home for a fraction of the cost and with quality far superior than anything you can buy in the grocery store. These home-made treats will get gobbled up! If you like it spicy, try adding cayenne or melt your leftover halloween chocolate for a chocolate drizzle.

Ingredients:

3 TBS egg whites or aquafaba (the liquid in a can of chickpeas. It’s a great egg substitute)

8 oz pecan halves (about 2 ½ cups)

½ cup sugar

1-2  tsp cinnamon

½ tsp salt

1-2 tsp cayenne - optional

1/2 cup chocolate - optional (I used 2 Hershey’s bars)

1 baking sheet covered in aluminum foil (make sure it’s wrapped well)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 250, line a baking sheet with foil. Make sure the foil is on well as it will make stirring the nuts as they cook much easier.

  1. Whip aquafaba or egg whites until foamy with a fork or whisk.

  2. Coat pecans with aquafaba or egg whites.

  3. Combine sugar, cinnamon, salt (& cayenne) in a bowl, sprinkle over pecans, mix well.

  4. Spread on prepped baking sheet in one layer

  5. Place in oven. Every 20 minutes, use a spatula to stir then spread out evenly. After an hour, they’re done! Let cool well. Caramel burns hurt.

Add chocolate!

Melt chocolate in the microwave in 30 second intervals, mixing after each time until completely melted, about 1 minute. Drizzle melted chocolate with a fork over cooled nuts and let set until the chocolate is completely hardened. Depending on the temperature in your kitchen, it might take a few hours.

Be warned….These are addictive!
